About
Archtober
It's 2021, a year after the pandemic, and Archtober, acity-wide architecture and design festival, needed a brand that reflected the moment: life cautiously emerging from lockdown, a blend of virtual and physical events, and a city ready to feel joyful again. We partnered with Archtober to build a brand identity around the nostaligic digital language of 8-bit in an effort to nod to the virtual year we all just endured. The festival identity clebrated all five boroughs equally through illustrated landmarked, rendered in the retro video game style. The Empire State Building, Unisphere, Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory became building blocks of a unified visual language that honored New York's architectural diversity while nodding to the digital-first year we'd all just lived. The concept extended across wall installations, a merch collection, digital platforms, print collateral, and even a custom map app, creating playful tension between retro video game aesthetics and classical architecture, and proving that we were a city ready to reclaim joy and playfulness.
